About This Project

We are three Carnegie Mellon University students — Jose German (Class of 2028, Computer Science), Kwame Asare (Class of 2027, Computer Science), and Tyler Coombs (Class of 2026, Psychology) — who created this project forThe Slave Passage: From West Africa to the Americas, taught by Professor Fields-Black. Our goal is to honor the millions of African captives whose stories have been fragmented, silenced, or erased by history. Through this memorial, we aim to preserve their humanity, acknowledge their suffering, and create a space where their names, journeys, and experiences are remembered with dignity. This project reflects our commitment to using technology, research, and storytelling to bring visibility to lives too often overlooked, ensuring that their legacy endures and continues to educate future generations.
